Description
You arrive in Isella (a village further down in the valley, before Staffa), following the dirt road and the "Schlittuweg” (sled path) which leads up to the beautiful hill of Motta.
From this hamlet, you can quickly reach the artificial lake Lago delle Fate, at 1309 mt. (there are two restaurants here).
The Lago delle Fate can also be reached from Borca - Spiss along a steep path of stairs.
From the dike, continuing along the convenient road between the many larches and firs, you reach the locality "Crocette", better known as "Città Morta" (dead town), a testimony of the ancient gold processing (1460 mt.).
Go uphill and then go through a forest of conifers, across the torrent of the alley of Caspiana and continue on a slope up to the bridge on the river Quarazza near the "Prà di Lanti".
Go to the opposite bank of the valley, and, once you leave the Alpe Piana on the left (1613 m.), go up the military path that was built in the 1920’s and which brings you to the Alpe Schena with a series of hairpin turns.
Enjoy the beautiful view on the south face of Pizzo Bianco, on the Grober and on the Corni di Faller.
Then, on a softer slope, you can reach the bivouac Emiliano Lanti (to the right side of the path) to resume the ascent towards the Colle of Turlo (2738 mt.), a historical connection between Macugnaga and Alagna.
This section is part of the Great Walser Trail of Monte Rosa and of the Sentiero d’Italia.
