Description
Itinerary with a great view on the Monte Rosa and the head of the Anzasca valley. It is an easy trail for everyone, doable from late spring until autumn. At alpe Bill there is the intermediate station of the cableway; to reach it on foot, from the square of Staffa, you have to walk past Chiesa Vecchia and go on on the pedestrian road towards Pecetto. Before the Tambach stream, turn right. A beautiful mule track in the coniferous forest leads to the Bill station in about one hour (the mountain pasture is just below, on the left of the mule track). From the cable car station go up briefly in the direction of the Monte Moro Pass to immediately bend right, halfway up, and complete a short final climb until you reach Alpe Meccia, at 1807 meters. (this section is dedicated to the memory of Mario Lanti). Just above it lies Alpe Sonobierg (1926 m.), a walser word which means "mountain of the sun". To return to Alpe Bill takes you need to follow an easy route, first in the woods, then along the ski slope that descends from the Moro Pass. Alpe Meccia can also be reached directly from Staffa by following the mule track.
